本質上，P-47 HBT 野戰服與二戰時期的 P-41 HBT 幾乎是同一款服裝。之所以在今日被稱為「P-47」，主要源自二戰末期至韓戰之間的一段特殊歷史背景：當時美國海軍陸戰隊因補充庫存的需求，需要大量追加 P-41 野戰服。戰後，美國海軍陸戰隊除了正式採用 P-44 外，也重新採購了一批 P-41 作為後勤與基地勤務人員的制服。由於這批追加訂購是在 1947 年進行，採購文件上便以當年度命名為 P-47 HBT Utility Coat，此稱呼也因此被收藏界沿用至今

相較於二戰量產的 P-41，戰後生產的 P-41（即 P-47）在胸袋造型上具有獨特辨識度，胸袋的上緣開口向內收窄、底部呈明顯的半圓線條，不同於早期 P-41 那種柔和、圓潤的袋型，也有別於後期偏方正的圓角袋型，而是形成一個「整體呈現圓弧感」的特殊外輪廓。這種袋型僅出現在戰後的 P-47 上。另外，袖口細節也有所變化：袖口改為單一釦眼並新增第二顆袖釦，不同於二戰版本的「兩釦眼搭配單顆袖釦」配置

Essentially, the P-47 HBT utility coat is almost identical to the WWII-era P-41 HBT. The reason it is known today as the “P-47” comes from a unique historical context between the late WWII period and the Korean War. During this time, the U.S. Marine Corps needed to replenish its uniform stock and ordered additional quantities of the P-41. After the war, alongside the newly adopted P-44, the Marine Corps procured another batch of P-41s for logistics and base personnel. Since this supplemental order was placed in 1947, the procurement documents referred to it as the P-47 HBT Utility Coat, and this name has been retained by collectors ever since.

Compared to wartime-produced P-41s, the postwar P-41 (known as the P-47) can be identified by its distinct chest pocket shape.

This version features pockets with a narrowed top opening and a clearly rounded lower edge—different from the soft, rounded pockets of early P-41s and the more squared-off rounded pockets of later wartime production. Instead, the entire pocket bottom forms a clean, pronounced semicircular shape unique to the postwar P-47. Another detail change appears at the cuffs: the P-47 uses a single buttonhole with two cuff buttons, unlike the WWII configuration of two buttonholes with a single button.
